We celebrated Tan's 3rd birthday last weekend and it was so much fun. Kid's birthday parties are really fun to put on, and each year it seems to get better. Tanner has been SO excited for his birthday this year and for having a party with all his friends. When we asked him about his party way back he had actually asked for "a pig party -with cows, and sheep and chickens"....so we settled on a barnyard theme. Grandma and Aunt Jen were here with us which was so great and helped a ton - and everything went really, really smoothly. Grandma (who is an expert in the cake making department) made the coolest Pig cake for the party which was a huge hit. At the party, we did all sorts of barnyard themed activities - the feeding trough (bobbing for apples), farmyard roundup (pretending you're a farmer and finding all the animals in the hay), pin the nose on the pig, make a farm critter (craft), the exercise pen (we used the new bouncy toy from Grandma for this)...and then we finished off with cake and pinata. Tanner, who for months has been saying that he wants to bob for apples one day, stunned us by figuring out right away how to grab the apple (with his teeth of course) by the stem (which I didn't even remember about) and he was bobbing for apple after apple.
Everyone seemed to have a really fun time, including Tanner, who keeps asking if we can have all his friends over for his birthday party again soon. We were all just so happy to be surrounded by friends and family and see everyone having so much fun. It was a really incredible day for all of us, and I think I (like Tanner) am sad to have seen it come and go so fast.
